Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly does co-ed fraternity mean?

Exactly that. Both men and women are welcome!

What’s the difference between a professional fraternity and a social fraternity?

A professional fraternity offers the chance to gain business experience long before you leave the university. Alpha Kappa Psi devotes its resources to hosting events, workshops, guest speakers, and excursions that provide focused business training. By taking part in the design and execution of these events, you prepare yourself to work effectively and efficiently with a team of motivated peers!

I’m interested in joining. What do I do?

Alpha Kappa Psi holds a “rush” period twice a year–one week each during the fall and spring quarters. During Rush Week, all interested parties are encouraged to attend as many Rush events as possible in order to get introduced to the active members. Rush week culminates with a formal interview, and Pledge bids are handed out immediately following Rush.

Candidates that receive an invitation to pledge Alpha Kappa Psi will spend the six weeks of their pledge quarter in a probationary period during which they will be tasked with running their own Fraternity “startup” as a pledge class.

I’m not a Business/Economics major? Am I still eligible?

Yes. In fact, we’d love to add new perspective to our ranks. We currently have roughly 50% biz/econ and 50% all other majors in our organization.

What does the pledge process consist of?

The pledge period is a time to push yourself to grow both as a leader and a team member. Over the course of six weeks, the pledge class collectively plans and executes several events (professional, community service, social, etc), secures a corporate sponsorship, and lays the foundation for lifelong bonds.

So at the end of six weeks I’m in?

Not exactly. While many pledge candidates that participate in the six week program have exactly what it takes to wear the fraternity letters, admittance into Alpha Kappa Psi is by no means guaranteed. Potential members should have the desire and resolve to advance our Core Values of Brotherhood, Knowledge, Integrity, Service, and Unity.

How much are dues?

Dues are approximately $170 per quarter, making Alpha Kappa Psi a bargain for Greek life. Funds are allocated to the respective committees and used to provide resources for our community events. Payment plans and scholarships are available.

What sort of time commitment does Alpha Kappa Psi require?

Life in Alpha Kappa Psi can be as rigorous or relaxing as you want it to be. Aside from weekly general meetings to stay informed, members have the option to chair a committee, run for executive board, plan and submit event proposals, and form lasting friendships that will go far beyond life at the university.

What is your policy on hazing?

Alpha Kappa Psi maintains a strict no-hazing policy. In fact, the pledge period should be a time to be exposed to and build upon a candidate’s professional business skills. As such, all pledge activities are designed with this in mind. Members and pledges are NEVER required to consume alcohol or otherwise place their health in jeopardy.
